Site Guidelines

These are the official posting guidelines (“Site Guidelines”) for the www.classroomchamp.com website, application or other interactive service (“Site,” “we,” “us” or “our). The Site is owned, operated and/or provided by New Trier Neighbors, an Illinois not-for-profit corporation (“Company”) (“NTN,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), and these Site Guidelines are a part of, and are Additional Terms under, our Terms of Use Agreement.

At Classroom Champ, our mission is to encourage academic excellence, critical thinking skills and the open debate of ideas in public schools in the United States. To facilitate this, Classroom Champ helps you see what’s being taught in specific schools included on the Site.

THE SITE/APP

The Site provides a way for parents, students and staff to submit and review assignments, surveys, readings, books, assembly materials, teacher training materials, and other materials (“Materials”) related to what is being taught in kindergarten through high school (“K-12”) schools throughout the United States. Initially, Classroom Champ will include the ability to submit and review Materials related to public K-12 schools within New Trier Township, Cook County, Illinois, but the Site may add other public or private schools (or may remove schools) as circumstances and resources permit. 

Materials should only be posted if they were created, used by, or disseminated by, one of the schools supported by the Site, and must be posted only in connection with the supported school at which the Materials were created, used, or disseminated.

Classroom Champ is NOT the place to report dangerous, illegal or illicit behaviors. If you believe that any student, teacher, administrator, or anyone else is in danger, we strongly advise you to report such incidences directly to school authorities or local law enforcement. 

HOW WE WORK

Classroom Champ has a team of moderators who review all Materials that are submitted. The moderators will apply standards that are consistent with our mission and undertake reasonable efforts to ensure submitted Materials are authentic and were created, used by, or disseminated by one of the schools supported by the Site. Our moderators are experts on our mission, these guidelines and our moderation standards and will not publish (or will remove) any Materials that do not comply with our mission, these guidelines or our moderation standards.

Nonetheless, from time to time, something may end up on the Site that is inconsistent with our mission, these guidelines or our moderation standards. If you feel any Materials should be removed from the site, we want to know. You can flag Materials for re-review via the Contact Us page and your comments will be referred to our moderators. Moderators will then determine whether to remove the Materials permanently or continue publishing them on the website.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Be honest with your submissions. You want to be able to trust that Materials published on the Site were actually created, used by, or disseminated by a supported school in their original and unaltered state, so we ask that you contribute to the Site in the same spirit.  On our end, we reserve the right to redact identifying information to maintain anonymity. 
  • Prior to submission, Materials should never be altered, edited, annotated, tc., but should be submitted just as they were created, used, or disseminated. Please note, however, that for lengthy or voluminous submissions, the moderators may publish only a portion of the submission, provided they can do so without altering or changing the tone and meaning of the Materials.
  • If any Materials are submitted with apparent edits, annotations, highlights, etc., when you submit the Materials, please describe any apparent changes, who you believe made the changes, and why you believe the changes were made.
  • Please do not submit Materials if you aren’t sure who created the Materials or whether they were used or disseminated by a supported school, or if you have reason to believe the Materials have been altered or changed since they were created, used by, or disseminated by a supported school.
  • Classroom Champ reserves the right not to publish (or to remove) Materials that do not comply with our mission, these guidelines or our internal moderation standards, or do not provide substantive, relevant information related to what is being taught at a supported K-12 school.
  • Among other things, Classroom Champ may contact the school any user claimed created, used, or disseminated the Materials to verify the legitimacy and accuracy of the Materials and/or may invite the school to comment on or provide context related to the Materials.
  • Submitting inaccurate or misleading Materials, misrepresenting the school associated with submitted Materials, or spamming, over-submitting, or dogpiling the Site for purposes other than sharing Materials created, used by, or disseminated by a supported school that is consistent with our mission and these guidelines is not permitted and will lead the Site to stop reviewing any Materials so submitted and to block any such user temporarily or permanently from submitting Materials to the site.
  • When reviewing Materials submitted to and published by the Site, we encourage you to use your discretion, weigh all published Materials, and to recognize that what is published on the Site likely represents a small amount of the Materials created, used by, or disseminated by a supported school. The Materials published on our Site should be one of many resources used to evaluate the nature and quality of what is being taught at a supported school.


Sensitive Content: The Site may not publish, may redact, may alter or limit access to, or may include explanatory notes or warnings when publishing Materials that include:

  • Profanity, name-calling, and/or vulgarity, derogatory remarks about religion, ethnicity or race, gender, physical appearance, age, mental and/or physical disabilities;
  • Derogatory information about someone who is not a public figure, the truth of which cannot be reasonably verified;
  • Information that may violate any applicable state or federal law, including the Illinois Civil Liability for Doxing Act, Illinois Public Act 103-0439 (enacted 8/4/2023) (effective 1/1/2024);
  • Derogatory information about a someone that appears likely to cause that person physical or emotional distress beyond any physical or emotional distress caused by the creation, use, or dissemination of such Materials by a supported school; 
  • Identifiable information about a student;
  • Identifiable information about a teacher, administrator, or school employee that would allow someone to contact the teacher, administrator, or school employee outside of their school;
  • Materials in a language other than English, if the moderators cannot reasonably verify the content and meaning of the materials, although the Site may publish non-English Materials if a reasonably accurate translation of the Materials is published alongside the non-English Materials; and
  • Hyperlinks and/or URLs.


School Guidelines:

  • This is a website where users can submit materials related to what is being taught at a supported K-12 school without their identity being publicly identified. We are unable to provide any data or personal information about the submitter of Materials.
  • We are unable to remove Materials simply because they cast a school (or school teacher, administrator, or other employee) in a negative light. Materials will only be removed if they don’t comply with our mission, these guidelines or our internal moderation standards.
  • If a school believes that published Materials have been altered or changed from when they were created, used, or disseminated by the school, that they are being published in a format that is incomplete or misleading, or that the Materials should not be published for a reason other than concern about negative publicity, please let us know via the Contact Us page, tell us what you believe the problem is, and provide any additional materials you believe should be considered, including, if needed, a full, complete, and accurate copy of the published Materials.
  • Classroom Champ’s moderation team is unable to prove or disprove details mentioned in a post. We are not arbiters of facts. If you disagree with the details mentioned in a review, please let us know via the Contact Us page and we will reconsider the content of the submission in light of your comments and will thereafter, in our sole discretion, leave the submission as is or modify the submission to delete certain details or add additional details and/or an explanatory note.
  • If you believe that inaccurate or misleading Materials are being submitted related to your school, that submitted materials misrepresent what is being taught at your school, or that your school’s profile on the Site is being spammed or dogpiled for purposes other than sharing Materials created, used by, or disseminated by your school, please let us know via the Contact Us page. We’re here to help and will happily review any comments/Materials you believe the Site should consider.
  • Any comments from or Materials submitted by a school are subject to the same limitations regarding Sensitive Content, as set forth above.

FLAGGING MATERIALS

If you see Materials published on our Site that you believe violate our mission or these Site Guidelines, please let us know via the Contact Us page and state what you believe is the problem. Such comments will be evaluated by the Site’s personnel. Please note, however, that we will not remove or modify submissions just because someone believes the Materials shouldn’t have been published or because the Materials cast a school (or school teacher, administrator, or other employee) in a negative light.

SOME LEGAL STUFF

Classroom Champ may receive removal demands that include threats to sue Classroom Champ, or may actually be sued for posting Materials related to a supported school. 

The law protects Classroom Champ from legal responsibility for Materials submitted by our users. Specifically, the Communications Decency Act of 1996 (47 U.S.C. Sec. 230) created a federal immunity to any cause of action that would make service providers, like Classroom Champ, liable for information originating with a third-party user of the service.

The law is clear on this. Anyone who wishes to sue Classroom Champ for Materials submitted by our users risks penalties that could be imposed by a court. These may include financial sanctions and reimbursement of our attorneys’ fees for our having to defend against a lawsuit that ignores obvious legal protections for Classroom Champ.

RESERVATION OF RIGHTS

The Site reserves the right not to publish (or to remove) any Materials deemed as inappropriate or that otherwise violate these Site Guidelines or the Terms of Use Agreement.

The Site reserves the right not to publish (or to remove) any Materials submitted and to provide any Materials to the authorities or otherwise to take appropriate action regarding the submission of Materials (or other communication with the Site) that threatens violence or bodily harm to any user, moderator, employee, director, or officer of the Site, including but not limited to, notifying the authorities of your IP address, where available, and the time you submitted any Materials and/or comments to the Site and taking any action as described in these Site Guidelines, the Terms of Use Agreement, or the Privacy Policy.
